Ayurvedic Rehabilitation

Indimasi Healing Village offers the definitive Experience Ayurveda retreat, a 7-night programme utilising classical Ayurvedic therapy for holistic rejuvenation. Our approach is designed to restore inner balance and mitigate the effects of a stressful lifestyle. Located in Kerala, the programme integrates authentic therapies with a gentle, guided detox program, strengthening your body’s natural vitality and calming the mind.

Ayurvedic Procedure for Rehab: Core Methods

Our Ayurvedic Rehabilitation programme is administered through a personalised plan, beginning with a thorough consultation to create a targeted recovery roadmap.

Pizhichil

(Medicated Oil Bath)

This initial stage involves pouring streams of lukewarm medicated oil all over the body in a rhythmic motion. Pizhichil is exceptionally effective for neurological conditions as it deeply nourishes nerve tissues, relieves muscle stiffness, and significantly improves circulation to the affected limbs, promoting strength and vitality.

Njavarakizhi

(Medicated Rice Bolus Massage)

A critical step in our post-stroke recovery programme, this therapy uses muslin boluses filled with medicated Njavara rice cooked in milk. It is a powerful strengthening treatment that nourishes the muscles, prevents wasting (atrophy), tones the nerves, and improves the overall health of the tissues.

Vasti

(Medicated Enema)

Considered a cornerstone of Ayurveda for neurological (Vata) disorders, Vasti uses medicated oils and herbal decoctions to cleanse the colon and pacify the nervous system. It is a powerful therapy for improving neuromuscular communication, relieving stiffness, and supporting the body’s overall healing and recovery process.

Shirodhara / Shirovasti

(Head & Nervous System Therapy)

These deeply calming therapies pacify the central nervous system. Shirodhara (oil stream on forehead) or Shirovasti (oil pooling on head) are used to reduce post-trauma stress, improve cognitive function, and regulate the mind-body axis, which is crucial for preventing setbacks and promoting mental peace.

Internal Herbal Support

(Neuro-restorative Action)

A crucial component of our programme, this involves prescribing customised internal medicines. These potent Rasayana (rejuvenating) formulations are designed to nourish the brain and nerve tissues, strengthen digestive fire (Agni), and support cellular repair. This personalised herbal support works systemically to restore long-term balance.

FAQs

Can this programme cure paralysis after a stroke?

While a full cure cannot be guaranteed, our post-stroke recovery programme focuses on improving quality of life. Many patients experience significant improvements in mobility, sensation, and independence through these therapies.

Rehabilitating the neuromuscular system is a gradual process. A 21-night stay is essential to administer the full cycle of strengthening and rejuvenation therapies required to achieve meaningful and lasting results.

This must be decided by your primary physician. Generally, patients can join once their condition is stable and they are cleared for travel and to receive therapeutic treatments for their rehabilitation.

No, the treatments are therapeutic and deeply nourishing, not painful. Therapies like Pizhichil and Njavarakizhi are warming and relaxing, designed to soothe the body and mind while promoting healing.

Our programme is a holistic complement, not a replacement. While physiotherapy focuses on muscle function, our Ayurvedic approach also works on nourishing nerves, detoxifying the system, and healing the mind-body connection.

You can expect improved mobility in affected limbs, reduced stiffness, increased muscle strength, better balance, and enhanced mental clarity. The goal is to maximize your functional capacity and independence.

Your entire programme will be designed and supervised by our senior Ayurvedic doctors (Vaidyas) and administered by highly trained therapists. Progress is monitored daily to ensure safety and effectiveness.

Kerala is a global hub for authentic Ayurveda. The serene environment, combined with traditional expertise and the availability of potent herbs, creates an ideal ecosystem for profound and holistic healing.

Depending on your level of mobility and independence, you may need a caregiver. Please discuss your specific condition with our team during the admission process so we can advise you accordingly.

Upon completion, our doctors provide a detailed plan with lifestyle advice, gentle exercises, and herbal recommendations. This guidance helps you continue your recovery journey and maintain progress at home.
