Background
A 61-year-old guest from Malaysia came to Indimasi after two years of declining health that hadn’t responded to regular medical treatment. Blood sugar was running high at 168 mg/dL, blood pressure sat at 130/80 mmHg, and constant burning nerve pain in both feet made walking difficult. Severe hip pain limited mobility further, and the combination of pain, poor sleep, and medication side effects had left the patient exhausted, withdrawn, and increasingly disengaged from daily life. It was family members who eventually encouraged trying a different approach.
Beyond the primary conditions, there was chronic itching and skin irritation, poor circulation, general weakness, and sleep that had been disrupted by pain for months. Two years of an unchanging picture, despite ongoing conventional care, was what brought the guest to us.
The Assessment
Our approach started from a simple observation: these weren’t separate problems to treat one at a time. High blood sugar, nerve pain, blood pressure, joint pain, and poor sleep were all connected through circulation, inflammation, and nervous system strain feeding into each other. Treating the nerve pain without addressing circulation, or managing blood sugar without addressing the stress and inactivity the pain had caused, wasn’t going to hold.
With only 12 days to spare in his busy schedule, Guruji and our doctors designed a 12-day integrated program built around that connection, combining Ayurvedic therapies, herbal medicine, breathing exercises, personalized nutrition, and movement practice.
At Indimasi Healing Village, an Ayurveda treatment centre in Kerala, this integrated approach is designed to address the individual’s health needs rather than focusing on a single symptom.
The Treatment Plan
Daily Abhyanga, warm therapeutic oil massage, targeted circulation and pain, particularly in the areas affected by neuropathy. Shiroabhyangam, a head massage, was used to calm the nervous system and support sleep, alongside Shirodhara, a continuous warm-oil-flow therapy aimed at deeper nervous system relaxation and sleep restoration. Choorna Pinda Swedam, a warm herbal poultice treatment, addressed inflammation in the joints and other affected areas, including the hip.
Alongside these external therapies, plant-based herbal formulations were prescribed to support blood sugar balance, reduce inflammation, and support metabolic and nervous system function, natural compounds without synthetic additions. Our doctors formulated a personalized diet plan designed to support stable blood sugar while providing adequate nourishment for healing, working in tandem with the herbal medicines rather than as a separate track.
This was part of a Personalised ayurveda approach, with the treatment plan adapted to the guest’s condition, physical limitations, and overall health needs.
Movement and breath work ran daily throughout the program: gentle yoga for circulation and strength, pranayama for nervous system regulation and stress reduction, modified Kalari movements adapted to the guest’s physical limitations, and meditation to support the emotional weight that two years of chronic illness had added.
The Journey
Days 1–3
Pain reduction was noticeable within the first three days. Abhyanga and the other therapies visibly improved circulation, and sleep quality improved for the first time in months.
Days 4–7
The chronic itching that had persisted for two years began to fade, and skin condition improved. Mental clarity sharpened, and Shirodhara sessions provided marked relaxation.
Days 8–12
Blood readings showed consistent improvement through this stretch. Mobility and confidence built steadily — walking became easier, and the combination of Kalari movements and yoga supported a growing sense of what the body was still capable of.
Guruji’s Intervention
Sessions with Guruji gave him more self-confidence and the realisation that no disease is beyond control. Guruji taught him breathing exercises that suited his condition, thereby improving his Prana balam and Mano balam.
The Outcome
- Blood sugar: Readings improved from 168 mg/dL to 118 mg/dL over the 12-day program.
- Blood pressure: Readings improved from 130/80 to 120/80 mmHg.
- Weight: A healthy reduction of 2 kg (90.3 kg to 88.3 kg).
- Neuropathy pain: Patient-reported reduction of roughly 80%.
- Mobility: Walking and daily movement without significant pain.
- Sleep and energy: Both significantly improved by discharge.
At 3-month follow-up: Blood sugar readings remained stable in the 115–120 mg/dL range, blood pressure remained around 120/80 mmHg, neuropathy pain reduction was reported at approximately 95%, and the patient described a return to normal walking and full independence in daily activities, maintained through continued yoga, meditation, and herbal support.
We want to be precise about what these numbers represent: this is one patient’s readings and self-reported symptom change over a defined program and a 3-month follow-up, under medical supervision. It’s a meaningful clinical response, not a claim that type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or neuropathy were reversed or cured, both diabetes and blood pressure management should continue under a physician’s ongoing care alongside any complementary program like this one.
What This Means for You
This case points to something we see often: chronic, interconnected conditions, metabolic, neurological, and musculoskeletal, often respond better to a coordinated program than to treating each symptom in isolation. Consistency with the treatment plan, family support, and patience with a gradual process were all factors in how this case progressed. That said, individual results vary, and this account reflects one person’s response to a supervised in-house program, not a guaranteed outcome for every patient with similar conditions.
As a wellness centre, Indimasi focuses on an integrated approach that brings together Ayurveda, movement, nutrition, breathing practices, and meditation according to each guest’s needs.
